Baseball Recap: Gretna East Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Gretna East had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 8-7 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Blair Bears by a score of 7-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Griffins also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Colton Nicholson looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tyler Cox was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Green, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

As for Blair, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On Blair's side, they got a good showing from Hudson Hamm, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.

At the plate, Colton Nixon was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Gretna East is set to take on their familiar foe Norris at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Griffins 3.7, the Titans 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Blair will face off against rival Hastings at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
