Softball Recap: Cape Fear Snaps 18-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Cape Fear dropped their record down to 19-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's 18-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gray's Creek Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 back in March.

Allie Dawson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Addie Davis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

As for Gray's Creek, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

On Gray's Creek's side, Hailey McFarley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. McFarley was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amariya Green, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was August Kebort, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Cape Fear has already played their next match, an 8-2 win against Jack Britt on the 29th. As for Gray's Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 22-0 victory against Douglas Byrd on the 29th.
