The North Providence Cougars will head out to square off against the Johnston Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. North Providence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

North Providence is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Smithfield, who was ranked tenth at the time (North Providence was ranked ninth). The Cougars took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sentinels on Saturday. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

North Providence saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Allard, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Johnston not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7, 2024 (when they won 10-0). They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Middletown. Nine seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The victory made it two in a row for Johnston and bumps their season record up to 2-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for North Providence, their loss dropped their record down to 10-2.

Everything went North Providence's way against Johnston in their previous meeting back in April, as North Providence made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
