Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Marauders vs. Fishers Tigers
Mt. Vernon waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Fishers Tigers 3-2. For the Marauders, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 defeat the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2023.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Mt. Vernon who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-10.
Mt. Vernon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Avery Delello out in front who had 23 digs and two aces. Delello is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in the last six games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Thompson, who had six digs and three aces.
She wasn't the only good server: Mt. Vernon was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in eight consecutive contests.
