Basketball Recap: McCormick Takes a Loss

McCormick was the 48-38 winner over Abbeville when they last played one another back in January of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The McCormick Chiefs were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 38-37 to the Abbeville Panthers.

Leading Abbeville to victory were Lauryn Murray and Anecia Dawson. Murray went 7-for-16 to rack up 16 points and six rebounds, while Dawson posted six points and seven boards. Murray is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Zarria Belton was another key player, putting up four points and 18 boards.

McCormick has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only two points. As for Abbeville, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

McCormick has already played their next game, a 48-44 win against Thornwell on the 10th. As for Abbeville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 36-33 defeat against Calhoun Falls Charter on the 10th.
