While Union's victory against South Summit wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 8th.
Haylee Moynier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Moynier was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Moynier wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kadyn Kettle, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Union hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Summit struck out 14 times.
The victory made it two in a row for Union and bumps their season record up to 13-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for South Summit, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union will host Carbon at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Summit, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Juab at 3:30 p.m. The Wildcats are facing the Wasps at the right time seeing as the Wasps are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
