Game recap: Points at a premium as Wilson high school football team defeats Lancaster Catholic

Wilson (West Lawn, Pa.) and Lancaster Catholic (Lancaster, Pa.) both tightened up defensively, but Wilson managed to score enough to pull out the 14-7 victory.

The Bulldogs scored on a punt return and a rushing touchdown to pull out the win.

The lead that Wilson took on a punt return touchdown by Jim Brooks with 6:00 to go in the second quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.

With the win WHS extended its winning streak to five games. The West Lawn school defeated the Black Knights 56-6 last week.



The Bulldogs' most effective player was Brooks. The senior wide receiver ran for one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.

Evan Purvis played well for the Crusaders. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown and kicked one extra point.

Lancaster Catholic's lone touchdown came on a 44-yard pass from Purvis to Sean Titus in the first quarter.

Wilson had given up an average of 8.5 points prior to the contest. LC's seven points were well below its season average of 27.2 per game.

The loss comes after Lancaster Catholic defeated Warwick 33-7 last week.

In a Lancaster-Lebanon 1 game next week Lancaster Catholic (4-3) takes on Hempfield, and Wilson (6-1) will go up against Manheim Township also in a Lancaster-Lebanon 1 game.
