Basketball Recap: Alessandra Falcon Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Ferguson

Palmetto won the last time they faced Ferguson and things went their way on Friday too. The Palmetto Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ferguson Falcons, sneaking past 50-48.

Palmetto's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alessandra Falcon, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Alavardo, who posted nine points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Palmetto was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ferguson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Diaz, who put up 15 points and three steals. The matchup was Diaz's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ivette Fernandez, who had 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Palmetto's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Ferguson, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-1.

Palmetto and Homestead will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Homestead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. As for Ferguson, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gateway Charter at 10:30 a.m. on January 2, 2025.
