Softball Preview: Fairfax Lions vs. University Wildcats

The Fairfax Lions will square off against the University Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Fairfax comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Things were looking good for Fairfax after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 11-1 to Westchester.

Meanwhile, University fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Hamilton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yankees. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kayla Anzora was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.

Anzora wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Carpenter, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sydney Escobar-Sanchez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

University's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Fairfax, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.
