Greensboro Day defeats Caldwell Academy to reach the 20-win mark for the 29th consecutive season.

Freddy Johnson of Greensboro Day (Greensboro, N.C.) reached a major milestone Monday night following a 75-47 win over Caldwell Academy, becoming the fourth active high school basketball coach to reach 1,100 career wins. He joins Steve Smith of Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), Gary McKnight of Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Richard Duease of Madison-Ridgeland Academy (Madison, Miss.).

Johnson is just the eighth coach in history to reach the 1,100-win plateau. Greensboro Day improved to 20-5 this season, making it 29 consecutive seasons with 20 wins or more.

The Greensboro native has spent his entire 40-year coaching career at Greensboro Day. He has compiled a 1,100-305 record and captured 11 state championships in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association, both state records.

Johnson also serves as the school's athletic director and in April of 2020 was recognized by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame with the Morgan Wootten Award for Lifetime Achievement.
