Preview: Bellevue West Thunderbirds vs. Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes
Having just played yesterday, the Bellevue West Thunderbirds will jump right back in to play the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Bellevue West's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
On Friday, Bellevue West faced Omaha Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bellevue West sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 71-69 victory over Omaha Central. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Bellevue West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Robby Garcia, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Steven Poulicek was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, Sunrise Christian Academy came into Saturday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They enjoyed a cozy 65-49 victory over McCallie on Saturday. Sunrise Christian Academy pushed the score to 57-36 by the end of the third, a deficit McCallie cut but never quite recovered from.
Bellevue West pushed their record up to 18-1 with that victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sunrise Christian Academy, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-9.
Bellevue West came up short against Sunrise Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2021, falling 75-68. Can Bellevue West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
