Basketball Game Preview: La Veta Redhawks vs. Walsenburg Panthers

La Veta is 5-0 against Walsenburg since December of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The La Veta Redhawks will take on the Walsenburg Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

La Veta is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Sargent just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They were beaten by the Farmers 78-37. The Redhawks were down 57-32 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Aspen Autry put forth a good effort for the losing side as she went 8 for 15 en route to 20 points and four steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Addison Pacheco also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Walsenburg challenged Raton on Monday. Walsenburg lost 42-20 to Raton. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Walsenburg's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for La Veta, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.

Everything came up roses for La Veta against Walsenburg in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 53-19 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Veta since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
