Softball Recap: Benilde-St. Margaret's Drops Season-High Score on Orono

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Benilde-St. Margaret). They put the hurt on the Orono Spartans with a sharp 14-5 victory on Friday. The Red Knights not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024 (when they won 10-0).

Elle Porisch made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Murry, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Riley, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Benilde-St. Margaret's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Benilde-St. Margaret's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-7. As for Orono, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benilde-St. Margaret's will face off against Chaska at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Orono, they will take on New Prague at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
