Basketball Recap: West Elk Extends Winning Streak to Three

Caldwell came into Saturday's match looking for another win against West Elk, but Maddex Moreno wouldn't allow it. The West Elk Patriots put the hurt on the Caldwell Bluejays with a sharp 56-31 victory on Saturday thanks in part to Moreno, who went 6 for 10 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of West Elk's points.

Another player making a difference was Garett Usry, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 16 points. Those 16 points gave him a new career-high.

Several Bluejays players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colt Schmidt, who posted eight points.

The win (which was West Elk's third in a row) raised their record to 4-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Caldwell, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

West Elk has already played their next game, a 74-47 defeat against Oxford on the 20th. As for Caldwell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-34 victory against Bluestem on the 20th.
