Softball Game Preview: Sussex County Tech vs. Wallkill Valley Rangers

Sussex County Tech hasn't had much luck against Wallkill Valley recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Sussex County Tech will square off against Wallkill Valley at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Boonton hit Sussex County Tech with a four-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Sussex County Tech took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Boonton. Sussex County Tech fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Boonton since Friday.

Meanwhile, Wallkill Valley suffered their closest loss since April 29, 2025 on Friday. They fell just short of West Morris Mendham by a score of 5-3.

Joley Motter 2026 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wallkill Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cassie Pallay 2027, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI. Kayley Pignataro 2026 also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Wallkill Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Sussex County Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Sussex County Tech couldn't quite finish off Wallkill Valley when the teams last played back in April and fell 9-7. Can Sussex County Tech avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
