The Scotland Fighting Scots will challenge the South Central Falcons on Friday. Scotland will be looking to extend their current 25-game winning streak.
Scotland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over Cape Fear. Five seems to be a good number for the Fighting Scots as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Avery Stutts made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Sampson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addison Johnson, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Scotland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in nine consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while South Central put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for South Brunswick. The Falcons came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 3-0. Three seems to be a good number for the Falcons as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The result came thanks to Somer Davenport's shutout, as she gave up just a hit.
On the hitting side, South Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haven Roebuck, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
South Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Scotland, their record is now 26-1.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Scotland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like South Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Scotland's way against South Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Scotland made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Scots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
