Soccer Game Preview: Newport Harbor vs. Marina

The Newport Harbor Sailors will square off against the Marina Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Newport Harbor's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for eight straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Newport Harbor fell victim to Edison and their airtight defense on Friday. They came up short against the Chargers, falling 4-0.

Meanwhile, Marina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 5-0 to Fountain Valley. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 1008th, while the Barons are ranked 274th).

Newport Harbor's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Marina, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11-2.

Everything went Newport Harbor's way against Marina in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Newport Harbor made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newport Harbor since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
