Basketball Game Preview: Sumrall Bobcats vs. Picayune Maroon Tide + How To Watch

Sumrall is 0-3 against Picayune since November of 2023 but things could change on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Maroon Tide at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, Sumrall was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-48 to Richton.

Despite the defeat, Sumrall got top-tier performance from Ella Robertson, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Robertson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. Talasha Harvey was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, Picayune came up short against Oak Grove on Saturday and fell 59-50. The Maroon Tide have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Sumrall will have to contain Laikyn Moore as she made an impact in Picayune's last game. She went 7-for-15 on her way to 20 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhyen Goss, who posted 11 points and five steals.

Sumrall's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Picayune, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sumrall has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Picayune struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Sumrall took a serious blow against Picayune when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 86-53. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
