Baseball Recap: Rhea County Golden Eagles vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Rhea County was the 4-2 winner over Notre Dame when they last played one another back in March of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Rhea County Golden Eagles fell just short of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jax Schmitt and Corydon Butler did some serious damage despite the final result: Schmitt went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double, while Butler scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That double marked the first that Schmitt hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Williams, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Rhea County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
