Baseball Game Preview: Weir Red Riders vs. Wheeling Park Patriots

Weir hasn't had much luck against Wheeling Park recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Red Riders will venture away from home to face off against the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. Weir has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Weir's last matchup with Steubenville could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Monday. The Red Riders came up short against the Big Red, falling 11-2. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Red Riders who fell 2-0 when the teams previously met back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Wheeling Park had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Monarchs as they made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Patriots have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Wheeling Park's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Weir, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Weir suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Wheeling Park in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Can the Red Riders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
