Basketball Recap: Shamrock Comes Up Short

Shamrock and Booker squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Shamrock had to settle for second. They took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Booker Kiowas. The Irish have struggled against the Kiowas recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Shamrock saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeff Rollerson went 10-for-21 on his way to 34 points and five boards. Rollerson is becoming a predictor of Shamrock's success: when he posts at least 30 points the team is 2-1 (and 7-15 when he doesn't). Kyle Ishee was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Booker was led to victory by Reydn Rosales and Julian Barton. Rosales dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards, while Barton went 8-for-17 en route to 22 points and six rebounds. Rosales is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Xavier Aquilera, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Shamrock's defeat dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Booker, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Shamrock does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Booker, they will face off against Wildorado at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Wildorado sitting on six straight victories and Booker on three.
