Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kalkaska). They put the hurt on the Cheboygan Chiefs with a sharp 15-4 win on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Sam Fitzgerald looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nate Cannon was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Noah Patnode, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Kalkaska always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Kalkaska and bumps their season record up to 3-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Cheboygan, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Kalkaska and Cheboygan could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Blazers will square off against Sacred Heart Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (487 vs. 66). Meanwhile, Cheboygan (ranked 522nd) will meet Elk Rapids (ranked 237th) at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
