Softball Recap: Heath Bulldogs vs. Utica Redskins
Heath had lost nine straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-17 to make it ten. They fell 6-2 to the Utica Redskins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-3 back in April.
Laityn Dennison was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Utica, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.
On Utica's side, Kiersten Hull was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Hull has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Kenzie Fletcher was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Makena Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Heath does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Utica, they will take on Lakewood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
