Softball Recap: Gladstone Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Gladstone and Molalla have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Gladiators blew past the Indians 8-1. The Gladiators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.

Ashlynne Franssen made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gladstone got a big performance out of Kaitlyn Totten, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Totten has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Maycee Terry, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Gladstone's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Molalla, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
