The Calvary Chapel Eagles will head out to square off against the Buena Park Coyotes at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Calvary Chapel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Calvary Chapel came up short against Tustin and fell 6-1. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Arianna Gonzalez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Bos, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Buena Park entered their tilt with Laguna Hills on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hawks a 10-0 shutout. Give the Coyotes' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Mia Gonzalez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Lily Phillips was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Emma Cazares was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Buena Park hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laguna Hills struck out 16 times.
Calvary Chapel's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Buena Park, their record now sits at 12-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calvary Chapel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buena Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Calvary Chapel suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Buena Park when the teams last played on April 7th. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
