Basketball Recap: Calexico Skates Past Southwest EC with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calexico). They blew past the Southwest EC Eagles, posting a 78-40 victory. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles on Friday, too.

Leading Calexico to victory were Sabino Martinez and Dany Carreon. Martinez posted 19 points along with eight boards and six assists, while Carreon earned 22 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds. That's the most points Carreon has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Duffy Jr., who put up 14 points.

Southwest EC's loss came despite strong showings from Thomas Gomez and Jacob Goff. Gomez had 11 points and five boards, while Goff scored seven points. Thanks to that strong game, Goff now owns an excellent 42.9% three-point shooting accuracy. Brady Bermudez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first point of the season.

Calexico has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Southwest EC, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Calexico has already played their next matchup, an 84-10 win against Foothills Christian on the 6th. As for Southwest EC, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-30 victory against Calipatria on the 6th.
