Basketball Recap: Austin Takes a Loss

Austin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They fell 61-53 to the Oxford Yellow Jackets. The Black Bears were not able to make up for their defeat to the Yellow Jackets from their previous meeting back in December of 2022.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oxford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Thomas, who went 9 of 15 en route to 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Thomas' morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikynlei Mosley, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 17 points and six steals.

Austin's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Oxford, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Austin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 80-52 defeat against Deshler on the 28th. As for Oxford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-33 loss against Chelsea on the 28th.
