Basketball Recap: Berkeley Prep Comes Up Short

Berkeley Prep lost against Palm Harbor University on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers fell 59-50 to the Palm Harbor University Hurricanes.

Despite the loss, Berkeley Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lila Grace Strain went 6 of 15 en route to 16 points and three steals. Molly Taylor was another key player, putting up eight points.

Palm Harbor University's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brenna Walters, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Smith, who scored eight points in addition to 11 rebounds and five steals.

Berkeley Prep has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Palm Harbor University, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Berkeley Prep won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wiregrass Ranch at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Andralee Keim and Madeline Dean. As for Palm Harbor University, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on Tarpon Springs at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Palm Harbor University is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
