Baseball Game Preview: John Marshall Monarchs vs. Morgantown Mohigans

John Marshall is 1-9 against Morgantown since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Monarchs will look to defend their home field against the Mohigans at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Saturday, John Marshall came up short against Cabell Midland and fell 11-6.

John Marshall got a good showing from Kain Ankrom, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Mason Markonich and Kayden Knapp did some serious damage despite the final result: Markonich scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Knapp went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Hayden Hughes was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Morgantown faced Spring Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mohigans fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 11-10. That's two games in a row now that the Mohigans have lost by just one run.

Jackson Bredeson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Nipper, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Morgantown has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for John Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
