After a string of five wins, Hughes's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 52-43 to the Mt. Pleasant Tigers. The game marked the Lions' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Mt. Pleasant had a senior duo take command as Jakyri McClure went 9 for 18 on his way to 23 points in addition to six boards and four steals and Ryan Benderman went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Dale, who posted seven points.

Hughes' loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2. As for Mt. Pleasant, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hughes won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Riverside at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Riverside: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Hughes has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will venture away from home to face off against Franklin Classical School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
