Softball Recap: Athens' Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Athens entered their tilt with Oxford on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats, sneaking past 7-5. This was payback for the Red Hawks, who suffered a 20-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Addison Cosgrove was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Addison Pokley was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Cosgrove wasn't the only one making solid contact: Athens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Athens pushed their record up to 3-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Oxford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2-1.

Athens will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair will be back at it again later today.
