Volleyball Recap: Nucla Takes a Loss

If Nucla was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Ouray on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell just short of the Custer County Bobcats by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Nucla took Custer County into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-9, 24-26, 19-25, 15-11.

Lantry Galley paced Nucla's offense, picking up ten kills. Galley got some help from Peyton Naslund and her 15 assists. Naslund was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Among those leading the charge was Hayden Hampton, who had 11 digs.

Nucla's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Custer County, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Nucla wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-1 win against Sierra Grande on the 23rd. As for Custer County, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Ouray on the 23rd.
