Basketball Recap: Sonora Falls Short of West Campus in the Playoffs

Sonora and West Campus squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Sonora had to settle for second. They fell just short of the West Campus Warriors by a score of 59-57. The Wildcats' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Sonora lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Luke Otterson, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds. He is becoming a predictor of Sonora's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 14-4 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Noah Wright was another key player, going 5-for-10 en route to 15 points.

It was another big night for Zach Villanueva, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten assists for West Campus. The matchup was Villanueva's eighth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Tyson Jiang, who went 7-for-12 on his way to 17 points.

Sonora's defeat dropped their record down to 17-12. As for West Campus, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-10 record this season.

Sonora does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Campus, they will challenge Natomas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Natomas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 71 points per game this season.
