The Yale Bulldogs will square off against the New Haven Rockets at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Yale beat Imlay City 9-4. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, New Haven entered their tilt with Merritt Academy on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Mustangs. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Lamar Pearson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Will Bosco was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lucas Lorber, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
New Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
New Haven pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Yale, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.
