Basketball Recap: Decatur's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Decatur waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They snuck past the Central Gwinnett Black Knights with a 59-55 win.

Decatur's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Welborn, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Howson, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 15 points.

When it comes to explaining why Central Gwinnett lost, don't look at Izaiah Keever-Simms. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points and three steals. That's the most steals Keever-Simms has posted since back in November of 2024. Denovian Flowers was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points.

Decatur's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Central Gwinnett, they moved to 11-7 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Decatur will take on Shiloh at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Decatur is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season. As for Central Gwinnett, they will square off against Dacula at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Gwinnett knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Dacula likes a good challenge.
