Softball Recap: Christian Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

After only one run in their last contest, Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cathedral Catholic on Saturday. The Patriots walked away with a 12-7 win over the Dons. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 7-4 win on Tuesday.

Alyssa McCurty was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sammy Baca and Lucy Sherburne did most of the damage at the plate: Baca went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Sherburne went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Tyler Krystek was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Christian pushed their record up to 23-7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Cathedral Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-12.

Coming up, Christian will face off against Mater Dei Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Cathedral Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
