Basketball Recap: Portage Comes Up Short

Portage won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Valparaiso Vikings and fell 74-21. The Indians have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Olivia Gonzalez was Portage's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Peyton Wilson held things down on the boards with four rebounds.

Valparaiso was led to victory by Lillian Barnes and Delilah Kincaid. Barnes went 7 of 13 on her way to 14 points along with seven assists and seven steals, while Kincaid went 6 for 7 en route to 14 points and five steals. Those 14 points gave Kincaid a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chyanne Brown, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points.

Portage's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Valparaiso, their record now sits at 10-7.

Portage will face off against East Chicago Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Valparaiso, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 72-45 win against Harrison on the 11th.
