Softball Game Preview: Seneca Fighting Irish vs. Coal City Coalers

The Seneca Fighting Irish will square off against the Coal City Coalers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Seneca is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Coal City's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Seneca hadn't allowed a single run the last eight times they've hit the field. The Fighting Irish's pitchers stepped up to hand Dwight an 11-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Irish, who have now won 18 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Coal City sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Herscher on Tuesday. The Coalers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Seneca's victory was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Coal City, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.

Everything went Seneca's way against Coal City in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Seneca made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Fighting Irish have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Coalers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
