Baseball Recap: Portage Gets the Win

On Saturday Portage's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Morgan Township Cherokees. Those seven runs were actually the fewest the Indians have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Hunter Cole spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kodie Young, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Portage's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan Township, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Portage beat the Cherokees by a score of 4-0 later that day.
