Softball Recap: Washington Takes a Loss

Washington extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They came up short against the Kennedy Titans, falling 12-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 28, 2022, but that streak is no more.

Ariel Guerra made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

As for Kennedy, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

On Kennedy's side, Madelyn Montague and Marilyn Rivas made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Montague pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Rivas didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Montague has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Montague went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Rivas went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Juliette Dekker and Eva Caldera did most of the damage at the plate: Dekker went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Caldera went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Danica Harper, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Washington will take on rival Moreau Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Kennedy is set to challenge their familiar foe Irvington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
