Baseball Recap: Boardman Takes a Loss

Boardman was the 10-1 winner over South Range when they last played one another back in May of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Vince Butto made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Boardman's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Sammy Moritz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Boardman's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for South Range, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Boardman will challenge Harding at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for South Range, they will face off against Marlington at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dukes have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
