Basketball Game Preview: Gregori Jaguars vs. Downey Knights

Gregori and Downey are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but not for long. The Gregori Jaguars will take on the Downey Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gregori has 11 straight victories, Downey has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Wednesday, Gregori earned a 69-61 win over El Capitan. The Jaguars pushed the score to 57-33 by the end of the third, a deficit the Gauchos cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, Downey lost to Stone Ridge Christian on the road by a 55-37 margin on Thursday.

Gregori will need focus on slowing down Trey Richards, one of several Downey players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 12 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Mcdonald, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Gregori's victory bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Downey, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.

Gregori skirted past Downey 62-59 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Does Gregori have another victory up their sleeve, or will Downey turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
