Basketball Recap: Whiteland Comes Up Short

Whiteland lost against Indian Creek back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Whiteland Warriors came up short against the Indian Creek Braves, falling 59-37. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Braves are ranked 101st).

When it comes to explaining why Whiteland lost, don't look at Sophia Dyer. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Whiteland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Ayla Lollar was her usual excellent self, going 6 of 9 on her way to 16 points and six assists for Indian Creek. Lollar is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Day, who posted seven points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Whiteland has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Indian Creek, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Whiteland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 35-24 loss against Center Grove on the 20th. As for Indian Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-39 victory against Edgewood on the 20th.
