Softball Game Preview: Scott Central Rebels vs. Morton Panthers

Scott Central is 0-10 against Morton since February of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Rebels will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Panthers at 10:00 a.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Scott Central's victory against Ridgeland wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rebels had just enough and edged out the Titans 5-4.

Phoebe Black tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kadelyn Washington, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run. Another player making a difference was Jimma Bell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Scott Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Morton made sure to put some runs up on the board against Louisville on Tuesday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-14 win over the Wildcats. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The victory got Morton back to even at 2-2-1. As for Scott Central, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Scott Central suffered a grim 14-5 defeat to Morton in their previous meeting back in February of 2025. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
