Soccer Game Preview: Mission Viejo vs. San Clemente

The Mission Viejo Diablos will take on the San Clemente Tritons at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.

Last Friday, Mission Viejo didn't have quite enough to beat San Juan Hills and fell 3-2. While losing is never fun, the Diablos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 843rd, while the Stallions are ranked 77th).

Meanwhile, San Clemente kept a clean sheet against Aliso Niguel on Friday. They came out on top against the Wolverines by a score of 2-0. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Tritons were the better team in the second half.

Max Jolley and Jonah Levandofsky scored both of San Clemente's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 14 goals.

San Clemente is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those four games. As for Mission Viejo, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Mission Viejo might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from San Clemente in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Mission Viejo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
