The South Newton Rebels will face off against the Caston Comets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
South Newton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over North White. The Rebels' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Thomas Applegate made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Applegate was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Cayden Martin was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Rayder Jennings also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
South Newton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Caston had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by ten runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Gavin Mollenkopf, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Holloway, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
South Newton's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-22. As for Caston, their record is now 19-7.
South Newton might still be hurting after the 10-3 defeat they got from Caston when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
