Baseball Recap: Wasilla Takes a Loss

Wasilla dropped their record down to 6-3-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Soldotna Stars by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered since May 18, 2024.

Wasilla saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Johnson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

As for Soldotna, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 25, 2024.

On Soldotna's side, Colby Sturman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Sturman was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Matthew Schilling was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Soldotna is 2-0-2 when Schilling posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brett Hostetler, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Wasilla will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lathrop at 3:00 p.m. This will be the Warriors' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Soldotna, they will take on Service at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Stars surely won't give up without a fight.
