Soccer Game Preview: Van Nuys vs. Canoga Park

Van Nuys hasn't had much luck against Canoga Park recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Van Nuys Wolves will face off against the Canoga Park Hunters at 4:30 p.m. Van Nuys is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.2 goals per game this season.

Van Nuys' defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Panorama as Van Nuys made off with an 8-0 win. Given Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Pythons are ranked 1009th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Van Nuys' offense was hitting Panorama from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Leelen Castro led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Canoga Park was not quite Reseda's equal in the second half on Saturday. They fell just short of the Regents by a score of 1-0. The Hunters haven't had much luck with the Regents recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

The victory made it two in a row for Van Nuys and bumps their season record up to 8-3-3. As for Canoga Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-3.

Van Nuys beat Canoga Park by a goal when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 1-0. Does Van Nuys have another victory up their sleeve, or will Canoga Park turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
