Volleyball Preview: Monte Vista Pirates vs. South Park Burros
Monte Vista has gone 4-0 against South Park recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. South Park took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Monte Vista, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Monte Vista finally turned things around against Crested Butte on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Titans by a score of 3-1.
The final score came out to 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monte Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abbi Ortega, who had 23 assists.
Monte Vista kept the net locked down and finished the game with ten blocks. That's the most blocks they've posted was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, South Park was not able to break out of their rough patch last Saturday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Custer County, falling 3-0.
While South Park was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-14, 25-22.
Despite the loss, South Park saw an underclassman step up: Kally Downare had 11 digs. What's more, Downare also racked up no blocks, the mostshe's had since back in August.
Monte Vista's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-10. As for South Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
