Basketball Recap: Burns Takes a Loss

Burns lost against Shelby back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Burns Bulldogs took a 41-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shelby Golden Lions. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Burns still got an impressive performance from Kaylee Greene, who posted 18 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. That was a full 58.1% of Burns' points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Emma Wallace was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven boards and four steals.

Shelby got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dereon Kee out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Kee a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Da'Mani French, who put up ten points and five steals.

Burns' loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Shelby, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Burns has already played their next contest, a 58-19 victory against Highland Tech on the 28th. As for Shelby, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 75-36 win against Cherryville on the 28th.
